Eulogy by Uncle David:
Our dear Almog,
I never thought for a moment that the phone call that woke me up on Monday morning in Seattle would lead to a moment where I stand above your fresh grave and force myself to do something against my will – to say goodbye to you.
Like a coral you were in your life. Living underwater, hidden from every eye. Embracing and nourishing all that breathed around you.
Like a coral you acted also in your final moments. Then you fought against a lowly predator. A predator who wanted to harm an entire reef, but could not overcome the stubbornness with which you defended those near you.
In a generation where sharks are the common creatures, you were, at just 20 years old, a rare coral.
Thousands of visitors flocked to strengthen those dear to you, even from Canada and the USA, and knew to tell of the nobility with which you acted, and the humility that concealed you.
Almog is our guide. And if each of us adopts just one trait from the many with which he was blessed, the people of Israel will fulfill their virtue and become the most beautiful reef in the world.
Creator of the world, I admit that many commandments I have not kept in my life, but still I ask a request. Please watch over Michal, Yossi, Lidor, Sahar, Uriel, and Tehila. Because you chose to seat beside you the most beautiful coral of all.
